Topline Systems is an IT service and support company based in south Birmingham, specialising in supporting small businesses. Our customers are mostly based in the Midlands.
An additional IT support technician is required to provide support to our customers.
We are looking for a friendly, approachable, enthusiastic individual, who has a genuine interest in computers, is happy working on their own and as part of a team. Key typical aspects of this position will include:
- Investigating hardware and software issues
- Visiting customers to provide support, install and maintain equipment
- Providing assistance to other engineers
- Providing assistance to customers by telephone and remote control software
- Dealing with technical presales enquiries
- Providing technical support to sales people
- Updating the service administration system
- Maintaining accurate documentation records

A degree level and / or Microsoft qualification would be an advantage and we would suggest that this position could be an excellent starting point for a graduate seeking wide ranging hands on experience in the IT industry prior to further study or specialisation.
If invited to an interview, you will be expected to demonstrate a good practical knowledge of computer hardware, Microsoft based operating systems and software, networking and Internet communications.
As you are in a customer facing role and could be dealing with customers both in person, via email and telephone, it is essential that you have excellent written and verbal communication skills. At interview you will have an opportunity to make a brief technical presentation on a computing, electronics or communications topic of your choice. This does not need to be directly commercially or technically related to the position you are applying for and should not last more than 3 minutes.
It will be assumed that you have a wider abstract knowledge of computing principles independent of vendor specific technology. Whilst already having a solid understanding of the items noted earlier, you should have the ability and inclination to research support issues and products as necessary.
Attention to detail is essential. Previous experience of working in a technical support environment dealing with business customers would be an advantage, as would a basic knowledge of Linux based operating systems, basic telecoms and electronics.
As the job involves visiting customers at their sites, a full driving licence and appropriate car is necessary. Mileage expenses will be paid in addition to your basic salary. You must be based within a commutable distance of our office in South Birmingham.
